- Accumulator
- Similar to a parlay, this bet links multiple selections and requires each one to win to generate a larger return.
- American Odds
- Odds expressed as a positive or negative number; positive shows profit on a $100 bet, negative shows amount needed to win $100.
- Arbitrage Betting
- Betting on all possible outcomes of an event across different bookmakers to lock in a guaranteed profit.
- Asian Handicap
- A split handicap that removes the draw option, offering two possible outcomes with adjusted odds.
- Bankroll Management
- The practice of deciding how much of your total funds to risk on each bet to protect against quick losses.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the match ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss based on current odds.
- Cover
- When a team wins by more than the point spread, they cover the spread and the bet on them wins.
- Decimal Odds
- A single number, such as 2.50, that includes your stake; multiply your wager by this number to calculate total return.
- Edge
- Your perceived advantage over the bookmaker’s odds, often expressed as a positive expected value.
- Expected Value
- The average amount you can expect to win or lose per bet if you repeat the same bet many times.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds displayed as a fraction (e.g., 3/2) that show the profit you make relative to your stake.
- In-Play Betting
- Placing a bet on a match while it is in progress, with odds that change as the game unfolds.
- Juice
- Another term for vig; the extra margin added to the true odds that ensures the house earnings.
- Kelly Criterion
- A mathematical formula that calculates the optimal bet size based on your perceived edge and the odds offered.
- Live Odds
- The continuously updated odds offered during in-play betting, reflecting the current state of the match.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win the match outright, with odds reflecting each team’s chance of winning.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be higher or lower than a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet that combines two or more selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, multiplying the potential payout.
- Point Spread
- A handicap that gives the underdog a fictional advantage or the favorite a deficit to equalize the betting odds.
- Prop Bet
- A wager on a specific event inside a match, such as which player scores first or how many yellow cards occur.
- Push
- A tie result where the final score matches the spread or total exactly, causing the bet to be refunded.
- Surebet
- A situation where arbitrage betting is possible, allowing a risk‑free profit by exploiting odds differences.
- Unit
- A standardized amount, usually 1% of your bankroll, used to measure the size of each bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving you a potential long‑term profit.
- Vig
- The built-in commission included in the odds that guarantees the bookmaker a profit regardless of the outcome.
